Eligibility Requirements:

Medicare Enrollment: You must already be enrolled in both Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance). This is a fundamental requirement, as Medicare Advantage plans cover all services under Parts A and B.

Residency: You must live in the service area of the Medicare Advantage plan you wish to join. Each plan has a defined geographic coverage area, so it’s important to choose a plan available in your local region.

Citizenship or Lawful Presence: You must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States.

No End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD): Historically, people with ESRD were not eligible to enroll in most Medicare Advantage plans. However, starting in 2021, individuals with ESRD can generally enroll in any Medicare Advantage plan available in their area.

When You Can Enroll:

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): This is the seven-month period surrounding your 65th birthday—three months before, the month of, and three months after. During this time, you can sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan.

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): From October 15 to December 7 each year, you can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage plan.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: From January 1 to March 31, current Medicare Advantage enrollees can switch to another plan or revert to Original Medicare.

Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): Certain life events, such as moving or losing other coverage, may qualify you for a SEP, allowing you to change your Medicare Advantage plan outside standard periods.
