How Marketplace (ACA) Coverage Works

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) expands access to health insurance and adds consumer protections like coverage for pre-existing conditions. ACA-compliant plans are offered through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace® and may include premium tax credits that lower monthly costs based on household size and income.

Applications are completed on HealthCare.gov. If you have Medicare, you’re not eligible to enroll in Marketplace medical or dental plans. To qualify through the federal Marketplace, applicants should list their Florida residence as the primary address.

Plan Comparison Checklist

  • Doctors & hospitals in-network
  • Prescriptions & formularies
  • Primary/specialist copays
  • Deductible & out-of-pocket max
  • Virtual care & after-hours options
  • Monthly premium vs. total expected costs

Savings amounts can change each year based on federal guidelines and plan costs.
